Nutrition Education Classes

This is an 8-week behavioral change class.   The objective is to teach and motivate participants to change their nutrition habits so that they and their families will eat healthier foods that will help lower the risks for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.   The class will meet once a week for 8 one hour sessions.   Participants will complete a pre and post nutrition survey to measure changes.

1.      Nutrition Basics.   The food pyramid.   What are the best and healthiest sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals?   What to eat more of and what to eat less of.

2.      Food Shopping:   How to choose healthy foods.   How to read labels.   What food traps to avoid.

3.      Sorting out Fats.   Good fats vs. bad fats.

4.      Sorting out carbohydrates.   Good carbs vs. bad carbs.

5.      Dining Out.   Fine Dining, Fast Food, Take out.

6.      Cooking healthy and modifying recipes.   (Cooking Demo)

7.      Vitamins, minerals, supplements.

8.      Eating to lose weight.
