Ergonomics
Musculoskeletal injuries have increased 600% over the last 11 years. The total injury cost per year is 9 billion dollars. The average cost per claim is $29,000. Back injuries alone accounts for 93 million lost work days. 8 out of 10 people will experience a back strain problem and the risks increase as a person ages.
People are spending more time on computers both at work and home which increases strain on neck, back, wrists, shoulders, and eyes. If strain is not corrected it can lead to serious injury such as carpel tunnel syndrome. When employees are feeling strain and discomfort they will make more mistakes and be less productive.
Health Promotion Affiliates can address these ergonomic issues with cost effective programs conducted by skilled physical therapists.
- Work Station Evaluations; A therapist will examine the work station of the employee to determine how the work station can be modified to reduce strain. The therapist will observe the employee’s positions and posture at work and make recommendations for improvements that will reduce strain. Our therapists can evaluate other manufacturing work environments. The evaluations can range from a brief 15 minute workstation overview to an in depth one hour evaluation with a report.
- Ergonomic and Back Care Seminars; These topics help employees learn the causes and risk factors for the musculoskeletal injuries, prevention, exercises, and treatment.
- Back Assessments; A physical therapist or chiropractor will assess a person’s risk of back injury through observation, measurements, and questions.
- Foot Assessments; A physical therapist will examine a person’s feet and shoes, observe standing and walking positions. The therapist will then make recommendations on foot care, inserts, or physician referral.
