12 Week Risk Reduction Program
The 12- Week Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Program is designed to screen participants with a Lipid Panel that includes cholesterol, HDL, Triglycerides, LDL, Glucose to identify some of the Heart Disease Risk Factors. The Lipid Panel will be scheduled before and after the 12 week program sessions. Additional measurements will include Body Fat, weight, BMI and Waist measurements. The program will consist of 12 consecutive one hour sessions and the use of participant tracking logs on health goals. Personal one-on-one counseling will be made available to participants. The purpose of the program is to educate and motivate participants to make the necessary lifestyle changes that will reduce their risk factors.
Weekly topics include:
- Keeping a Healthy Heart: Risk Factors for Heart Disease
- The Psychology of Change; Making Changes that Stick.
- Understanding cholesterol; good and bad, triglycerides, the risk ratio, glucose. What do the numbers mean?
- Weight Loss, Body Fat, BMI, and Waist Measurements
- Exercising for life. Using your pedometer. Your personal exercise program. Aerobics, Strength, and Flexibility
- How to lower those high numbers. Good Fats – Bad Fats, Fiber.
- Shopping: Where the choice begins. Reading Labels. Learning portion size.
- How to survive eating out, even at fast food restaurants.
- Cooking low fat and modifying recipes.
- Medications, aspirin, antioxidants and working with your doctor.
- Stress management and relaxation techniques.
- How to stay on track, keeping your goals and motivation.
